The Chapel Choir of St. Francis of Assis church strives to glorify God while sanctifying and edifying the faithful through the art of sacred music found in the liturgical tradition of the Catholic Church, “a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of other art.” Because “Gregorian Chant has always been regarded as the supreme model” for musical prayer of the Sacred Liturgy, much of the choir’s efforts are focused on a prayerful and artful rendering of the Propers and Ordinaries of the Mass.

In the past, a mixed-voice choir (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) has worked diligently to prepare and sing polyphonic works of composers from the early Renaissance period to our modern day (e.g. Dustable, Byrd, Palestrina and Durfule.) For the past two years the choir has consisted of a male schola that also sings equal-voice polyphony on certain occasions. A mixed-choir is sometime utilized when treble singers are available.

Presently, the Men’s Schola rehearses one hour before the 10:00am Sunday High Mass and 30 minutes before the occasional weekday sung Mass for special feasts. Men with the ability to match pitch (and boys with changed voices) are encouraged to contact the choir director to join.
